Talk to your assistant about your food diary

Connect MealSnap once. After that, Claude or ChatGPT reads what you actually logged whenever you ask about it.

Which assistant do you use?

You'll need MealSnap Pro on your iPhone. Keeping the diary stays free.

Pick one, and we'll walk you through it.

Your data, in detail

What the assistant can read
  • Your diary entries: meals, drinks, activities, day ratings, body measurements, and hunger and fullness, with their dates, times, notes and tags
  • For meals: the foods MealSnap recognized and your changes to them, portions, meal type, estimated calorie ranges, and protein and plant levels
  • Summaries and trends built from your diary, such as recurring foods and what adds the most calories
  • Your saved weekly and monthly reviews
  • Your time zones, languages and regions, including those saved with past reviews; units, start of the week, Health-sharing and hidden-calorie settings; and this connection's permissions
  • Details about your diary: entry counts, your first and latest entry dates, photo counts on entries other than body photos, when body-photo entries were recorded, where imported entries came from, and IDs for your entries, your diary and this connection
  • Entries imported from Apple Health, and reviews based on them, only while you let MealSnap's reviews use Health data

If you hide calories in MealSnap, calorie estimates, calorie-based summaries and reviews written while calories were visible are left out. Calorie figures in diary text can still be read.

It reads. It cannot write, edit or delete anything in your diary, and it cannot spend your recognition or review allowance.

MealSnap doesn't send your name, email address, date of birth, saved locations or body photos through this connection. Personal details in diary text, including notes, descriptions and tags, or in saved reviews can still be read.

Photos

Photos you added to your meals, drinks and activities. Each photo is sent as a new copy, without its location or other metadata. Body photos are never sent. You can turn photos off for this connection in MealSnap at any time.

What happens to what it reads

What a connected assistant reads becomes part of your conversation with it, held by Anthropic or OpenAI under your own plan with them, not by us.

On Claude's personal plans, that content can be used to train Anthropic's models unless you have turned that off in Claude's settings. ChatGPT has its own data controls, including a setting for improving the model. Check them in whichever assistant you connect, before you connect it.

The no-training guarantees those companies publish for their enterprise tiers, and for their own health products, do not apply to a connection like this one. We would rather say so here than let you assume otherwise.

On our side nothing changes: we do not train AI on your diary, we do not sell your data, and there are no ads and no trackers. Our full policy is at mealsnap.app/privacy.

How to disconnect

Settings, then Connected assistants. Every connection is listed with what it can read, when you made it, and when it last read anything. Swipe to disconnect. The next question that assistant asks gets nothing back.

Deleting your MealSnap account removes every connection with it.

Disconnecting stops the assistant reading anything new. It does not reach into your Claude or ChatGPT history and remove what it already read. If you want that gone, delete those conversations in the assistant.

Connections belong to your MealSnap account, not to your phone. If you sign out of an account that isn't linked to Sign in with Apple, or it doesn't come back with you on a new phone, MealSnap starts you on a new account. A connection made on the old account keeps reading the old diary, and the new account's Connected assistants list is empty, so there's nothing to switch off in the app. Ask the assistant for your MealSnap connection id and send it to support@mealsnap.app, and we'll disconnect it for you.

Where the code comes from

The code is how MealSnap knows the assistant asking for your diary is one you asked for. It comes from inside the app, where you are already signed in.

  1. Settings, then Connected assistants.
  2. Choose which assistant.
  3. MealSnap shows an eight-character code. Type it on the MealSnap page your assistant opened.

The code works once and lasts ten minutes. Only ever type it into mealsnap.app, on a page your assistant opened. Nobody from MealSnap will ever ask you for one.

What this is, and what it is not

This is a way to ask questions about your own record and get answers grounded in it, instead of pasting a PDF into a chat and re-explaining yourself every week.

Calorie figures in your diary are estimates, and they travel as ranges. An assistant may be tempted to add them up into a single tidy number. That number is no more precise than the estimates it came from, and MealSnap does not stand behind it.

MealSnap is not a medical device, and neither the app nor a connected assistant gives medical or nutritional advice. If something about your eating worries you, that is a conversation for a doctor or a dietitian, and the diary is a good thing to bring to it.

Requirements
  • MealSnap for iPhone, with an account you are signed in to.
  • MealSnap Pro.
  • Claude on any plan, or ChatGPT (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu). For ChatGPT, you add MealSnap once, on a computer.

MealSnap works with any assistant that supports MCP connectors. Claude and ChatGPT are the ones we have set up and tested.

Connecting an assistant is part of MealSnap Pro. Keeping the diary itself is free, and stays free.
